It was established as a veterinary school in 1882 and by the end of the 19th century it had been accorded the status of Punjab Veterinary College. The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore is one of the oldest veterinary institutes in Asia. It was upgraded to a university in June 2002 and five new faculties, two directorates and 21 departments have been established.
The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in various fields of animal health, food irradiation, security and safety.
